Attorney Patrick T. Barone is a proud gun rights activist that credits the Second Amendment for inspiring his decision to attend law school more than three decades ago. Throughout his career, he has zealously and effectively defended against criminal allegations brought by the Government against thousands of Michigan Citizens. Many of these cases involved firearms. Patrick became a CPL-holder in 1992. Patrick is the Principle and Founding Member of the Barone Defense Firm, which has offices in Birmingham and Grand Rapids. He is also a founding member of the American Council of Second Amendment Lawyers.
Patrick is the author of five law books, several book chapters and 100s of legal articles, including Armed and Educated, Michigan Gun Law. He is also an adjunct professor at the Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

He has been listed on U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Lawyers” since 2009 and holds an AV Preeminent Rating on Martindale Hubble. Patrick is the only lawyer in Michigan that is also a board-certified Practitioner and Trainer of Psychodrama, a distinction shared among some of the nation’s top trial lawyers.
In 1987 Patrick began his legal career as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Richard D. Kuhn of the Oakland County Circuit Court. He entered private practice in 1992 and is the founding Partner at the Barone Defense Firm. With offices in Birmingham and Grand Rapids, the Firm handles civil and criminal cases at both the State and Federal levels throughout the State of Michigan.
